About the event and how to visit

The idea

In 2014 the young farmers of Metsämaa decided to build a pyramid out of the stones that get in the way of farming. The entrance fee to their summer event has been a stone ever since, and since the first year the stories of the stones have been collected too. The stones form a growing community artwork, the Field Stone Pyramid. The original steel frame filled up in 2025, and in 2026 two new, larger frames were built around it, like the growth rings of a tree.

The event is organised entirely by volunteers of Pyramidipiknikin Ystävät ry (Friends of Pyramidipiknik), founded in 2023. From 2014 to 2022 it was organised by the local farmers' association MTK-Metsämaa, still a close partner. The programme mixes original Finnish music, an art exhibition, food for every diet made from Finnish ingredients, and deadpan pseudo-science lore. It is alcohol-free and open to all ages.

Visiting the pyramid

The pyramid is open all year round. Bring a stone, place it in the frame and drop the stone's story in the red postbox next to it. The stories are published anonymously on this site (in Finnish).
